University Heights Middle School is a 7th and 8th grade middle school in Riverside Unified School District with approximately 850 students. UHMS was originally located on University Avenue at the current Cesar Chavez Community Center, but has been at its current location since 1972.

University is set up in cross curricular teams to aide with the transition from elementary to middle school and to provide consistency and support for students throughout their two years with us. Additionally, University has a variety of electives, clubs, and activities for students to get involved in both during and outside of the regular school day.

Positive school climate and healthy behaviors are supported through a rigorous PBIS Tiers 1/2/3 program of teaching and reteaching, and incentives and weekly socio-emotional lessons. UHMS was the only school in RUSD to earn statewide Platinum recognition for its 2024-2025 PBIS program.

We at University Heights pride ourselves at the extraordinary opportunities we provide to both students and families through our site coordinated events, parent input groups, Family Engagement Center, student wellness center, and our partnerships with local businesses and universities. We encourage all stakeholders, including parents, teachers and students to engage in decisions that affect the campus climate and programs through these events.
